Remember

There are three days of the year I wear black slacks, a black tie and a white shirt. Today is one of them. The other two are June 5 and November 22. If you have to ask what happened on those days, well, please leave the room.

There are times when politics must be pushed aside so that we, as a country, can come together as one people. All of us grieved for the senseless and inexcusable actions that occurred on 9/11.

This final image has nothing to do with 9/11. However, I like it and it seems appropriate today. It is from the funeral of Sam Rayburn in 1961. Kennedy looks concerned, LBJ looks sad, Eisenhower looks angry and Truman looks bewildered. The expressions on their faces seem to capture the feeling of today.

Please take time to remember the approximately 3,000 people who died on this day in 2001 as a result of the 9/11 attack on the United States along with their families and friends.

Thank you for posting these images. I certainly didn't forget. My husband and I watched the re-broadcast of the September 11, 2001 Today show which was carried by MSNBC. We didn't intend to watch, but were transfixed by the video and journalists' discussion as each sequential attack took place. It is amazing how the simple act of remembering can re-frame one's perspective on our current situation.

Nicely done, Russell. I wouldn't have expected anything different from you.
