Ice Storm

Today Iowa is dealing with an ice storm. Usually we get these types of storms in March.

The temperature is just warm enough so we get rain. But the moment it hits any surface it instantly turns to ice. It is impossible to appreciate this weather event through pictures.

Stepping out my garage door I see this.

And when I get a little closer I can see this.

Look at the ice accumulation on this little rabbit!

Here's another view of how ice builds up.

This is a little cherry tree.

You can see the branch of the tree encased in ice.

Imagine this ice on power lines or a road.

Bailey and I will be staying inside today.

Thanks for stopping by.

Russell, these pictures made me chuckle. The steps look like shark's teeth, and the rabbit looks like the monster-killer-horror bunny with fangs.

I can't even imagine ice like that. Here in Vancouver, the birds are singing, and people are out walking in their light jackets.

Hopefully no power lines will be lost.. nor tree branches. Staying inside is a good idea. Unless you're walking with your camera. Love the bunny!

We may have cool temperatures and fog here in Corpus Christi, but at least we don't have ice storms! Glad I'm not home!

An ice storm much like yours decimated forests, downed power lines for weeks and caused several accident related deaths in this area two winters ago. We are still seeing the effects of all that ice on the trees. Hope you escape without much damage. Those stair icicles look like teeth!

Ice storms can be very dangerous as you well know. I hope your power stays on.

I remember as a child living in Portland Oregon we would have these and we called them 'Silver Thaw' I don't know why.
Yesterday here in Stanwood was a balmy near 60F. Shirtsleeve weather. Odd for January though. It is usually our coldest month. Hmmmmm. MB

One of my worst experiences with an ice storm was in Dallas, back in the late 70s. Everything in the city came to a halt. The power was out for days. I was trapped in my apartment...couldn't get my car up the icy ramp that led to the icy street.

Hope you're thawing out! And I agree...your steps have teeth!

Sooo pretty! We skipped winter this year in Washington State. I'm jealous. I enjoy my cold snows and cocoa.

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Both Frost and and these pictures leave me feeling cold.
