Ice

Here in Iowa it is COLD. We are talking temperatures way, way below zero. The forecast is for 20 below zero in Iowa tonight. The high temperature, even on a sunny day, does not break double digits.

This is my driveway. Well, it's there some place.

I will be using this green, mean machine to clear out the snow. Again.

I don't mind snow too much. But I don't like the frigid cold. And I really dislike ice. My pony's water pail starts out like this.

It will look like this within a couple of hours.

Zeke, the cat, watches things closely. The barn is her domain.

Her water bowl looks like this when I put water in it.

But it will not take long for it to turn into this.

Bailey is good to help with the barn chores.

But after a while in the snow and cold and ice...

He is ready to go inside. So am I.

Sometimes the best place to be is inside where it is warm and dry.

Wonder what we can find to eat? A hot meal and football. Or maybe a good movie. Or a book. The possibilities are endless.

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm with you and Bailey---time to go inside. We finally--after all these years put a heater in the horses water trough. It is so nice but eventually one has too deal with a frozen hose. No, the frozen cold part of winter is not nice. Although we don't get as cold as you do so you would think us lucky. And we are!!! MB

Oh, that is brutal!! I feel sorry for the people and animals that don't have a warm place to stay.

-25! Yikes! That's colder than I've been in years. When I homesteaded in northern VT the temperature sometimes crept down to 40 below zero but that's too cold to think about! Enjoyed the little tour of your farm and animals. I'm with Bailey - time to go in by the fire!

Thanks for stopping by my blog with your kind comments. I see your winter colors are similar to mine. I am living rural, too, and though oftentimes the sounds of distant traffic interfere, if I go deeply enough into a meadow or the surrounding woods, I can pretend I am the only human for miles :)

Daughter up north says -26 tonight! Brrrrr!

I suggest the hot chocolate and book route for today. And give Bailey a nice warm treat, too.

You can see the cold in the first photo! Again, brrrrr!

That actually looks really beautiful -- but cold. Brrr. I like to see the sunshine, and the blue sky against the white snow. Here it is raining, the sky is grey, the water is grey, everything is grey. It's warm and the seagulls love it, but...

You and Bailey stay warm!

Bundle up while outdoors on your 'green machine'. Dang, and I thought it was cold here! Iowa is in the real deep freeze right now.

Thank you for visiting my place, it's always lovely to meet a new fellow blogger.
I love the name Bailey, my daughter has two cats named Baxter and Bailey ;)
It looks awful cold in your neck of the woods, it's been in the teens here today, but looks so much colder where you live.
Hope to visit often !

I love your green, mean machine. We could certainly use that baby to clear the snow from the manor drive!

Came over here from Pauline's and your beautiful, icy blue pictures are making me shiver at memories they call up of N. Dakota, Montana and Minnesota! That snow and ice looks so beautiful, but now the most I want of that kind of weather is the few nights it gets down to freezing here in Florida, like tonight! Enjoyed your descriptions of rural winter life in Iowa!

Hi Russel, I do not understand why I have never visited you before as I feel as if I already know you from Jo's blog. Your snowy scenes, and all that iced water looks absolutely lovely to me over here in the upper 30s (degrees celsius). While you are shivering up there, we are slowly melting away down here. I cannot even imagine temperatures of below -0 and lower degrees as that only happens here in the middle of the night during our coldest winters and even then it only goes to about 2 0 3 degrees below. I will start visiting regularly from now on as your part of the world looks lovely to me.
