Curling Anyone?

When it comes to winter Olympics my favorite sport is the bobsled.

To see those sleds going down a ribbon of ice at speeds of about 100 miles per hour is exhilarating. Talk about a rush! Whoa!

But my second favorite sport to watch is .... curling. I'm not kidding. I am serious.

I confess. I really don't know the rules. Well, I sort of know the general idea. But I don't know anything specific.

What I do know is that people who play and follow curling are passionate about it. Football fans. Blah. Baseball fans. Yawn. Hockey fans. Ho Hum. Name any other sport fans. Borriinngg.

But get around curling fans and watch out! These people are FANS! And I love it. I love people who are full of life and passionate. And from what I can tell, curling fans and people who play the sport are PASSIONATE!

So if you see people wearing this pin around Vancouver during the next couple of weeks ....

you will know you are close to a REAL fan of a REAL sport!

Now if I only knew the rules...!

Thanks for stopping by.

I have never seen a curling match(?). So funny that just yesterday a friend asked if I would like to see curling. I was somewhat ho-hum about it. Maybe I shouldn't have been. After your enthusiam maybe I should go. MB

I enjoy the curling competitions, too Russell! I don't understand the rules either but people sure do get worked up about it.

Curling is a grueling sport. You have to have the stones for it. ;)

Curling is HUGE in Canada. The Canadian women's team won the 1998 gold medal, and they are now in the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. (Yes...!) *heh* Their skip was a woman named Sandra Schmirler, and she was from a town called Biggar, Saskatchewan. I don't believe there is a Smaller, Saskatchewan. There is a Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Alberta, however, and curling is big (Biggar) there.

I agree that curling is full of passionate people. I started curling 3 seasons ago, and i LOVE it.

Tune into Feb 14ths Simpsons episode, or watch the old episode with Steven Colbert trying it out on Hulu.com

Oh my, this reminded of a friend telling me about attending his first curling tournament, "I think the crowd believe that the stones were moved by sound-waves, oh holy loudness."

The picture of the blond made me think of that :-)

I enjoy watching curling as well. I'd like to try actually playing it sometime. Does anyone know where in Iowa you can play?

Hi! I'm a curling fan and used to play before moving to Iowa. I'm really hoping to start a club here. I've been talking to the US Curling Association and other curling clubs. Please contact me if you are interested and maybe we can set up some learning sessions. At iowacurling@yahoo.com
