Everybody's Fine

Recently I watched the movie Everybody's Fine. Robert De Niro plays a man who has recently lost his wife. His four children live in various parts of the country.

He decides he wants them to all come home so they can spend a weekend together. However, one by one they call him and cancel. So he is alone at home.

So since they will not come to see him, he decides to go see them. He takes a Greyhound bus and Amtrak to go from his home to New York City, Chicago, the Pacific Northwest and Las Vegas.

His son plays in an orchestra.

One of his daughters owns a high powered advertising agency in Chicago.

Another daughter works in Las Vegas.

Along the way he meets a variety of interesting people.

Yet he knows something is not quite right. Being a parent he can sense such things.

I won't say too much since I hope you will watch the movie if you have not seen it. I will say that it is a touching movie for any person who has a child who is not living close to them.

When you only see your children a few times a year, well .... This movie captures that situation.

Paul McCartney watched the movie and then wrote a song for it. Here it is. If you have a couple of minutes it is worth listening to and you can see some images from the movie, too.

I sure know the feeling of a child being away from home and not getting to see him often. It sounds like it might be a tear-jerker, eh?

I have seen that title. I usually pick some movies I wish I hadn't, but this one sounds good. Thank you for the suggestiong.

I loved that movie. We have eight grown children and we don't see even the ones who live nearby very much. They have their own lives now.

I'm pretty sure they'd be there for me, though, if I really needed them.

I hope so, anyway.
