I was in Dubuque, Iowa, recently. I wanted to stop by their art museum as they have some original Grant Wood work. As I approached the art museum in my car I noticed a rather large .... something.
I could not believe it. There was an unbelievably HUGE and TALL sculpture of American Gothic standing next to the building.
Seeing this famous work towering above me - and everything else - was somewhat overwhelming.
This is not the sort of thing you forget very easily.
I could not decide if this was gaudy or great. It was certainly memorable.
In another part of town I noticed this large head.
It reminded me of a work in Des Moines and I decided to have a closer look.
Next to this very nice work was a rusty wheel of some sort. I was not quite sure what it was.
Turns out this sculpture is made up of various farm tools.
The more I looked, the more I saw. This was one fascinating work of art!
Yes - that is even a kitchen skillet in there.
As is so often the case, it is the unexpected that is the most interesting.

You have a lot of cool art in your neck of the woods. That American Gothic seems right for the location. They're proud of their Grant Wood collection.
Oh I love those statues. Can you imagine. Just like in the picture.
Beautiful!
Wow! I'd love to see all those things! Thx for sharing!
Russell, those works of art are fabulous! I love the strange head, and what a strange expression!
You never know where you're going to find the most amazing things, hey?
