Target Field

From 1982 through 2009 the Minnesota Twins played baseball .... indoors.

But as of this week, the Minnesota Twins are playing baseball outdoors again. As the game should be played. Under the sun. With a breeze blowing across the field.

Target Field opened this week. It seats about 40,000 people. And when you look up you see the sky. Not a roof. Not even a retractable roof. Just sky.

So when the pitches are thrown

And the balls are hit

it will be outdoors. With real grass. And the threat of rain. No more controlled temperature. No more Homer Dome. Baseball is back in the Twin Cities.

I confess I am a Cardinals fan. And a Washington Nationals fan (not many of us around!) But for many years I followed the Twins and still do when I am watching American League teams. Go Twins! Do it this year!

Thanks for stopping by.

Love the name! Target headquarters are there in Minneapolis so it's only appropriate.

Well being from Missouri I love hearing you are a Cardinal fan. Our opening day ceremony brought tears to my eyes, and I am not really into sports all that much, but live with 2 huge sports fans. Stan the Man is almost 90 and still attended with his grandson. I can't imagine being at a game with the covered dome. Seems dreary. Play ball!

Baseball should only be played outdoors, under a blue sky. I went to an indoor baseball game once, and it was awful.

Target Field looks like an absolutely beautiful baseball field. Baseball is my favorite game. I love sitting in the stands (does that make any sense? *heh*) and listening to the sounds of baseball. I find it very relaxing.

We're gonna win, Twins, we're gonna score! We're gonna win, Twins, watch that baseball soar! Knock out a home run, shout a hip hooray! Cheer for the Minnesota Twins today!

Oh, sorry. I just got carried away there! I can't wait to attend a game outdoors. I went to one game in the old Met stadium (where the Mall of America stands today) and only a couple at the dome. I didn't like the dome much at all. But now we're back outdoors!

And we're going to do it this year! Thanks for the post, Russell!

Yes baseball should be played outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine. Well we have a move-able dome but it is seldom closed. I have never been when it was closed. I've been cold and even wet but it stayed open. I haven't been to a Mariners game for awhile though. MB

I live in Seattle so you know I am a Mariners fan and we have to have one of those slide back and forth domes on our stadium or we would be rained out from March until June. I will admit I like it best when it is open. Baseballs just says summer and America.
