Girl with a Pearl Earring

I recently watched Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Colin Firth plays the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer.

The story is a fictional account of the 1665 painting by the same name. Scarlett Johannsen plays the girl. In reality, this young woman's identity is not known and very little is known about the background of Vermeer's most famous work.

The movie is extremely well done and has wonderful costumes, good acting and excellent photography.

Here is the original painting.

The movie replica shown below is pretty good.

If you have not seen this movie I recommend it - especially if you enjoy art or history.

Take care and thanks for stopping by.

Hell Russell,
I just got that book at a book store for my Mother to read. I remember she had the book before but liked it very much. I like the painting too.

Thank you for your kind words. I have just an ordinary camera--CanonPowershot. No extra trapping or anything---just point and shoot, well zoom in, and hold still. LOL

A lot of The skagit Valley is turned into flower world when the Tulips bloom. The Valley if one of the nations largest bulb growing areas. I will show astounding shots of the tulips--if they ever bloom. Everything is late because of our colder than usual Spring. We get rain and not much snow and if it does snow it doesn't stay for long.

We stay green year-round. Washington is known as The Evergreen State.

See you on Tuesday for barn charm. MB

I loved this movie because I enjoy reading about artist's private lives. There was another wonderful movie made in 2004, starring Andy Garcia, about the life of Modigliani, and his feud with Picasso. I had no idea Modigliani died at the age of 37, from tuberculosis.

All we see of painters are their paintings, so these movies -- even fictionalized somewhat -- give us an insight into their lives and who they were as real people.

"The Girl With the Pearl Earring" was a beautiful movie, and in some ways I felt as if I had stepped into a Vermeer painting when I watched it.
