Confessions of a Recluse

I was in a grocery store today waiting in line. The woman in front of me was paying for her groceries with one of these

I was a bit miffed I had to wait while she wrote out a check and entered the payee's name, check number and amount in her register. I always pay for things with one of these

But then I thought about all the things I do NOT do that most people DO do. For example, I do not do this

Another thing I do not do is this

I guess if I did I could enter up to 140 characters and enlighten the world with such things as "going downstairs to do laundry" or "thought Ricky G was funny on the People's Choice Awards."

But to Tweet or squeak or squawk or whatever it is called, I would need a phone that looks more like this

My phone looks more like this

Please don't get me wrong. I think technology is great. And I do plan to join the rest of the world one of these days. Or months. Or years.

Until then I will be doing this

rather than reading one of my favorite books like this

Technology is nice. But there are some things that are not so modern that I still like, too. For example, I still like to listen to these

on one of these (and I have one of these in my bedroom that I use a lot)

As with everything in life, you need to find a balance. The new, high tech gadgets are great. I love high definition TV and cell phones and .... but a beautifully leather bound book or the sounds of music coming from a record player are pretty nice, too.

Take care and thanks for stopping by.

We are akin you and I, I tend to stick with 'stuff' that still works, and not jump to the latest gadget each time a new one is announced.
There is a special feeling to thumbing the pages of an old book, the smell of the ink and paper, what takes THAT place when you read with a Kindle ?
Great post :)

Oh so do I. I don't think I like to read books on line. I love the feel of paper I like to underline things for later to digest
and then books last longer and get personalized With technology its not for ever. When a person dies and the books are sold, they have a history they leave behind. DNA, A name a thought a feeling. You can't do this with electronic stuff.

I do like to read a real book--turning pages and all. I like to read a real paper news paper---hence the name 'paper'. I do not have too many of the newest things--in fact I only have a cell phone and computer---but at my speed. I am fascinated by all but I don't want to tweet or squeak or even show my face. LOL
good post, Russell. MB

PS. I post two barns on my smallcityscenes blog.

Sorry to hear about Bailey--it is a sad thing to do and my heart hurts for you. MB

Russell - first of all, great post title for this one. I agree with so much of this. I don't have FB (but my dog does, so go figure). I refuse to tweet. Really, what is the purpose? And I think it's wonderful that you still use that old record player. Very cool.

Ah vinyl still sounds good to me. I am one of the holdouts who still uses a VCR. I have my first cell phone ever for one month now and I've got to say that I like it.

I have a turntable that I need to put to use. I need to rearrange the area it is setting so I can more easily access it. I have the collection of three different person's records.

This post made me laugh out loud. I am exactly the same. I don't even own a cell phone. I feel a bit like Johnny Appleseed ~~ if I don't get on the wagon train pretty soon, I will be left behind.

And then again, I enjoy a simple life.

My wife and i got quite cheerful when Emmanuel managed to deal with his investigations with the ideas he gained from your blog. It's not at all simplistic to simply continually be giving away tips that many some people may have been making money from. So we figure out we have got the blog owner to be grateful to for this. The illustrations you've made, the simple site navigation, the relationships you help to promote - it's got many amazing, and it's making our son and us reason why that theme is satisfying, and that's pretty pressing. Thank you for all the pieces!
