I don't care what a person's political tendencies are. Seeing this man take the oath of office for a second time was an event that will be in high school history books.
His ability to come back and win a second term will be the subject of political science term papers. The Obama machine, its organization, its ability to take advantage of the latest technology, its ability to be even better the second time around than it was the first time is beyond remarkable.
It is no secret to anyone who knows me that I am and have been a strong Obama supporter. I cannot imagine not being a supporter of his party.
The Democratic Party is the party that advocates for gay rights, among other things. I was beyond pleased to see that in his speech this week President Obama directly mentioned the importance of people being afforded equal rights regardless of their sexual orientation. His reference to Stonewall was to a 1969 raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York and often considered to be the start of the gay rights movement as we know it today.
And he emphasized the importance of women's rights by referencing the 1848 Seneca Falls convention.
The Selma, Alabama, march of 1965 was mentioned in the President's speech.
And he renewed his pledge to fight for gun control and reasonable restrictions on assault rifles and other weapons of murder.
Watching the speech I was proud to consider myself a Democrat. I am not a Republican (God forbid ... the party of anal retention and suppression of human rights and dignity). I am not an Independent -- a name taken up by people who think they can straddle the fence and avoid taking a position and to which Abraham Lincoln stated God reserves the hottest places in hell.
Every so often the good guys win and it was beyond nice to see the Democratic Party retain the Presidency for four more years.

I think what the democrats want to do are fine ideas. I am just not sure about the timing.
When a country is broke, you don't keep spending.
You work to bring jobs back home. You work to make sure people keep their homes and families together.
You work to lower taxes.
You don't impose expensive projects like Obama care.
Social systems tend to be abused and bureaucracies running them can't be controlled.
Soo... I guess we will just have to see what happens lol
I thought it was a wonderful and very historic event. I am optimistic for the next four years.

I must admit I was not a huge fan of President Obama's the firs time around. I thought Hillary should have been elected. But I have gained a great deal of respect for Obama in the past couple of years, and especially recently. I thought, also, that his re-election was even more historic than his election. And he came back even stronger.
It's hard to understand what is happening with folks in the Republican party. It's as if they are travelling at the speed of light back to the Stone Age.
